The Greener Futures Partnership has welcomed the announcement of a new standalone department to tackle energy issues and the net zero challenges.
The Government says the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero will provide dedicated leadership focused on delivering security of energy supply, ensuring properly functioning markets, greater energy efficiency and seizing the opportunities of net zero to lead the world in new green industries.
A focus this year for the newly formed department will be on easing the cost of living and delivering financial security by bringing down energy bills and keeping them down.
Longer term objectives include ensuring properly functioning energy markets, coordinating net zero objectives across government and bringing external delivery expertise to bear on its portfolio of major projects.
Rose Bean, Chair of the Greener Futures Partnership Executive Committee, said: “We welcome the news from Government that a standalone Department for Energy Security and Net Zero focussed has been created.
“With the cost of living being at its highest, the energy price spikes we’ve seen over the last year have been challenging for our customers.
“As the Greener Futures Partnership continues its journey to net-zero, we hope that this sharper focus on bringing down bills and securing our long-term energy supply will support our significant efforts and investment into creating a sustainable future for our customers.”
The Greener Futures Partnership is a collaboration of like-minded housing associations - Abri, Anchor, Home Group, Hyde Group and Sanctuary.
The Partnership is made up of five of the UK’s largest housing associations with a joint turnover of £2.3bn, representing over 600,000 customers in 300,000 homes.
